Friends and Family attend Heuer Way Dedication

Have you noticed the new Street Sign that has been erected at SAGES? "Heuer Way" was dedicated on November 17th, during our Chili Supper! Here is what Kathy Jenswold, president of SAGES Governance Board and friend of Jim Heuer had to say at the dedication:

"Jim was a huge supporter of Agriculture, the City of Fox Lake, and education. SAGES embodies all 3 of these passions. The Fox Lake Grade School was closed for a few years and Jim volunteered here before it opened again as SAGES. A group of inmates worked to paint, clean, and prepare for housing students again. He oversaw their work and they referred to him as Mr. Jim. He had a great relationship with them and they considered Jim their friend. That's how it was with Jim- if you knew him, you enjoyed his company and considered him your friend. Jim actually started the chili supper fundraiser. He and Gail Nehls prepared the chili in her restaurant style kitchen. It's only fitting that the chili supper bears his name in memory of him. There are so many great memories of Jim - like how entertaining he was at the SAGES Foundation Banquet auction. He made it a fun evening and had everyone relaxed, laughing, and enjoying themselves. Jim was on the Facility Advisory Committee to help pass a referendum and plan updates for the Waupun Area School District. One of the things he was concerned with was our driveway. Potholes after potholes that were temporarily fixed. Very temporarily! More than once Jim would say, " I probably shouldn't talk about the driveway again, but I'm gonna!" and off he'd go! Sadly he passed away before he could see the updates at SAGES but he'd be so very proud. SAGES has updated classroom spaces, a media center and greenhouse - which had long been a dream of ours. A chicken coop with solar panels, teaching kitchen, and the driveway is in wonderful shape. The only thing missing is a name. To honor our friend, supporter, and cohort Jim, we are dedicating this driveway to him - Heuer Way. You are gone, my friend, but not forgotten. You left your imprint here and we are forever grateful."
