WASD Weather Make-up Plan

Dear Waupun Area School District Family Members,

February 12, 2019, was our school district’s sixth inclement weather cancellation. The Department of Instruction, for the State of Wisconsin, requires that all public school districts meet minimum hours of instruction. The district proactively built time into its schedule to accommodate inclement weather days. However, this year has seen an exceptional amount of inclement weather. This unique situation has not allowed us to absorb the lost instructional time.

The Waupun Area School District is implementing the following plan to best provide the educational time needed to meet our hour requirements and ensure students have the opportunity to flourish. Beginning Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the District will be extending school start times by seven minutes. All schools will begin their day seven minutes earlier. Below are the new start times at each facility.

Meadow View 7:53 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Rock River 8:03 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.

SAGES 7:53 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Jr/Sr HS 7:43 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.

The district will also be changing the March 8th professional development day. March 8 was originally a non-student contact day. March 8th will now be changed to a student contact early release day for our K-12 students. If you are the family of a 4K student, please await communication from your student’s site on their plan for any additional days or hours of instruction.

If any further inclement weather occurs, April 22nd will be used as a full student contact day.

I appreciate your understanding and patience with the challenges the district has faced related to weather this year.  The safety of our students and staff is my first priority when making weather-related decisions. This plan addresses the educational needs of our students moving forward.

If you have particular questions regarding this make-up schedule, please contact your student’s school principal.

Sincerely,

Steven Hill District Administrator Waupun Area School District
